On his first day in office, President Donald Trump to be terminated a 2023 Executive Order signed by former President Joe Biden that sought to limit the threats that AI could pose to consumers, workers, and national security.
Biden officials have instructed the Commerce Department’s National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to issue guidelines to drafters that help companies identify — and correct — errors in models, including. favoritism. The law also required AI developers to share the results of security tests with the US government before they are released to the public.
Critics who sided with Trump said the executive’s reporting requirements were onerous and forced companies to reveal their trade secrets. During his speech, Mr Trump promised policies that would “support the development of AI based on free speech and human development” – but declined to elaborate.
