“Return to the presidency confident and optimistic that we are at the beginning of an exciting new era of national success. A tide of change is sweeping the country,” Trump will say. “My message to Americans today is that it is time for us to act again with the courage, vigor and vitality of the greatest civilization in history.”
The president will deliver his remarks from the Capitol rotunda on Monday as an arctic blast battered the nation’s capital, with frigid temperatures forcing inaugural ceremonies to be moved indoors for the first time in four decades.
Trump, who won the Electoral College and the popular vote, defeating now-Vice President Kamala Harris in a landslide, has promised that his second administration will bring “America’s golden age.”

Trump ran against President Biden, who was seeking re-election, until July 2024. But after the two debated for the first time, and after a disastrous performance by Biden, the incumbent came under pressure from Democrats to suspend his presidential candidacy.
Biden made the announcement in a social media post and endorsed Harris to be the Democratic presidential nominee in his place, moving his vice president to the top of the ticket.

But Trump, just days before accepting the Republican nomination, survived an assassination attempt at a July 13 rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. During the event, Trump showed a chart highlighting how illegal immigration skyrocketed under the Biden-Harris administration. As he turned to the letter, he was struck by a bullet that pierced the top of his right ear from the now-dead would-be assassin, Thomas Matthew Crooks. Trump credits the chart with saving his life.
But weeks later, in September, another would-be assassin hid in the bushes at the Trump International Golf Course in West Palm Beach, Florida. The gunman, Ryan Wesley Routh, had an AK-47-style rifle pointed through the fence at Trump as he played golf. Trump was escorted off the golf course unharmed by US Secret Service agents.
