The Best Coffee Maker in 2025

Evaluating the performance of a coffee maker is more difficult than it sounds. You need to know what good drip coffee is and, according to Specialty Coffee Associationthere are important ways to make good beer. Brewing time and water temperature are at the top of the list. Hot water should be in contact with the area for at least four and no more than eight minutes. The ideal water temperature is between 197 degrees Fahrenheit (92 degrees Celsius) and 205 degrees Fahrenheit (96 degrees Celsius).

To see how well each coffee maker copes with this challenge, we record the length of time it takes. We also use thermocouple temperature sensors connected to industrial data loggers. This allows us to record the temperature inside the coffee shop while brewing.

We test the temperature inside the brewing chamber of every coffee maker we test.

After making the coffee, we count the samples of the coffee water that is made with Optical refractometer. Given that we count the amount of water and fresh coffee used, this data allows us to calculate the Total Dissolved Solids percentage for each brand. From there we get to the elimination level. A good range is considered to be between 18% and 20%.

We also maintain quality testing and good old fashioned testing. Over-extracted coffee is bitter and sharp, while under-extracted coffee is usually weak or sour. In fact, we conduct the same test three times to understand the results.
