Captain of the National Current Team in Southern Africa, Tembo Bavuma revealed that the National Cricket team led by Pat Cummins mockeled with the Sunka Sankes during the ICC World Test Championship World Championships.
Tembo Bavuma said that Aussies tried to get under their skin when they were hit and he clearly heard the use of the disgusting word “muffling”.

South Africa is a proud sports nation and has produced some of the greatest players of all time in the crisis. However, over the years, Proteas have suffered massive cardiac ports, and the South African greats have never been able to get their hand on the trophy.
There were many close to the misses, and despite being one of the most consistent teams, they repeatedly appeared. This has led to the “Chokers” marking to be associated with proteim.
Last year, South Africa received a big heart when they lost the finals of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 against India from the winning position. However, the team of Tembo Bavuma made sure to funeral “Chokers” by beating the dominant team of Australia in the World Cup finals at the ICC.
South Africa made history on June 14, 2025, while they ended the drought ICC trophy and won the title by beating the defenders of the champion at Lord’s Crickket Ground in London.
The fourth and last day of the World Championship finals at the ICC 2023-25, when there were 69 run to win with Tembo Bavum and Aiden Marko in the middle, Aussies came up with Saledja ‘Chokers’.
Tembo Bavuma said that playing against Australia has been quite different in the last few years, but things have not been very heated, but during the WTC finals, they were targeting Pat Cummins & Co.
“While we were hit, we could hear Aussies using that terrible word, muffling,” he told the BBC test Match Special Special Special Special for BBC Test Bavuma.
“Playing against Australia is a little different in the last few years. They are not so loud on the field. They are still aggressive through the body language, obviously their skill, but there is not much chatter,” he said he quoted Espncricinfo.
“Of course, the tag us that we were Chokers, who happened this morning. One of their players kicked out the fact that we could lose eight hicckets in less than 60 rides. I definitely heard it. Aiden continued to use (words) lock after each end, let’s continue to lock ourselves. So, yes, there was no, just so that they were.”
WTC’s hero Final 2025, Aiden Markkram, who played one of the biggest tests in history for South Africa, said he did not want to hear the use of the word ‘chokers’ for Proteas. He said:
“It would be great not to have to hear it again, that’s for sure. As far as motivation is concerned, I mean, there will always be external things that can motivate you, but this is not your only purpose of playing.
“Complete the job and literally do the job and get rid of it, it’s a pretty big deal for this team.”
