In a recent interview for AthleticThe Real Madrid superstar opened up about its reasons for investing in the team.
“Well, the first thing is, as a French person, I always wanted to support my compatriots,” Mbappé explained. “I always wanted to support French sports, so it was already the first factor.”
He also emphasized the social influence of SailGP: “Second is because Sailgp is working socially on children. If I could have included my foundation with Sipygp is really something that fills me with joy because we share a lot of values and have many projects planned together in the future.”
Founded in 2020, Mbappé inspired by the Kylian Mbappé (IBKM) Foundation wants to help young people find the direction and purpose in their lives. Through her partnership with the French team, Sailgp creates opportunities for some of the 98 teenagers and young people in their program to experience the excitement of competition at a high level firsthand.
“I want them to have the freedom to create their own experience, their own memories, because they are the ones who will live it,” he said.
“They will also learn the meaning of the victim, the meaning of hard work, because they will see how much work it takes to achieve the result, seeing preparation for the big competition. Of course, I do not know what they plan to do with their life in the future, but they will see the mental preparation of the sailor, to see how much self -control and emotion management participate in.”
As for his own sailing, Mbappé admitted that he was still limited – but he was eager to learn and see it as a potential new passion outside football.
“I am a very curious person and try to develop more and more to gain as much knowledge as possible,” he said. “So it will be a great learning experience for me because sailing is not an area I know well.
“I never wanted to close any doors for my postcar. I never wanted to say nothing, so we’ll see, but I have a lot to do before I think about what’s coming after.”
With its dedication to French sports, young people’s development and personal growth, Mbappé’s investment in Sailgp reflects both his ambitions on and off the field – and hints at the exciting future, whether on the football field or on the high seas.
