Back in 2007, South African rugby icon Bryan Habana famously racing a real life gap In the “Man Vs. Beast” competition in the Human Speed Testing title against nature, which he eventually lost.
Fast forward by 2025, and Leeds United renewed the concept -s high octane turning.
In the unexpected collaboration with Red Bull Racing, the three fastest Leeds United players – Willy Gnonto, Largie Ramadani and Isaac Schmidt – took over the Formula One car “Man Vs. Machine” on Elland Road. The car launched a growing F2 star Arvid Lindblad.
The format was simple: both players and car had to end two rounds through the length of the terrain, from one edge of the criminal frame to the other and back.
So who won? Car – but only the smallest edges.
Thanks to the smooth surface of the grass and 180 degrees sharp turns, the F1 car fought for towing, providing the right chance to Leeds Trio. In the end, the machine just struck the race, crossing the target line barely a second in front of the player.
Thinking about the challenge, Ramadani said, “This was a great experience, I wish we could do it every day with Red Bull. The only thing that would be better would be to get into the car. I love F1. Last week I went to the Grand Prix Monaco, which was a list of buckets for me.”
Lindblad added: “I was a little nervous before the race. I never drove on the grass and I had no idea how it would go. The car has a ton of horse forces and there’s not much squeezing on the grass, so I wasn’t sure if I could go to full gas and turn the car properly. It was a great party.”
Whether it is a gapard or a carbon fiber machine, one thing is clear: as much as people are humans, we are just a step behind. But it’s in the chase – whether it is against the beast or machine – we find excitement.
