Harvey Elliott admitted that in Liverpool he was measuring his future, insisting that he did not want to “spend years” of his career sitting on the edge – even in a club he loves deeply.
The 22-year-old midfielder was a peripheral figure last season under Arne, making only two PREMIER League starts, both in the games after Liverpool had already won the title.
Of his 28 appearances in all competitions, only six were starting, and he only passed 822 minutes of action, despite scoring five goals and adding three assists.
This marked a sharp fall from the previous season, when Elliott scored 53 appearances (27 starts), contributing four goals and 11 assists in a break campaign.
Now, on the eve of this summer European Championship in Slovakia, Elliott says it is time to think and possibly a re -evaluation.
“I don’t really want to waste years in my career because it’s a short career,” Elliott told reporters.
“I have to think. I have to see if I am pleased with what I do and how I can improve myself as a player, because this is the most important thing.

While Elliott admitted that there was a lot of time for the club: “I love the club, I love fans, team. I support them too”
“If it will go somewhere else, then it is the decision I will have to make. Nothing wants to leave me … but it is what is best for my career.”
Complicating things have been reported to Liverpool’s interest in Bayer’s star Leverkusen Floriana Wirtz, a player who is likely to take the same creative middle areas as Elliott. This potential signing could push England U21 International Further down to boiling.
Elliot was also related to the influence of a broken foot suffered in September, which held him for almost three months. He returned in December and hoped that his dramatic winner against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League would be a turning point in the last 16 first legs.
“I thought PSG was kind of tall for me … I thought it was an opportunity to start and show what I could do,” he said.
“But the boss is the boss. He is the reason we won the league, I can’t complain.”
