Kylian Mbappe admits that he was happy about Paris Saint-Germain after their Champions League triumph, despite leaving the club only a year earlier in tense circumstances.
The French striker, who joined Real Madrid last summer on a free transfer, said he did not feel bitterly watching his ex -side finally raise the most prestigious club trophy in Europe.
“I was happy, they deserved it, they went through so many problems, and I went through it. I went through every phase of the Champions League, except I won it,” Mbappe told reporters on Saturday.
“They were the best team in Europe. I can’t remember ever seeing them going 5-0. That’s 100% deserved, they become a team that everyone wants to win.”
The PSG’s long-awaited triumph followed four years after they lost the 2020 finals at Bayern Munich and marked a significant breakthrough for a club that has repeatedly passed despite its big investments.
Mbappe left PSG as their top scorer, but later took a legal claim against the club, seeking € 55 million unpaid wages. Despite this dispute, the 26-year-old does not hold bad will to his old teammates.

“PSG won the Champions League without me, it doesn’t affect me. It’s a good thing. I think we all face career challenges,” he added.
“I’m a little more in the eyes of a storm, which is good. I’ve always loved being in those positions, it’s up to me to work. I turned a lot of trends in my career, I had a lot of things stuck on my back and managed to remove them.
“Did I go too early? No, my story was over, I had to finish. There was no bitterness, I got to the end of my relationship.”
Mbappe scored 43 goals in all competitions during his debut season in Real Madrid, but the Spanish giants ended the campaign without silver accessories.
They finished second in Barcelona in Laliga IU Copa del Rey, and Arsenal eliminated them in the quarterfinals of the Champions League.
When asked who he believes deserves Ballon d’Or, Mbappe has thrown his support behind Ousmana Dembele – his former PSG teammate – over the Barcelona star on Lamina Yamal’s rise.
