Renjers name Russel Martin for a new boss

The Rangers have confirmed the appointment of Russel Martin as their new main coach at a three -year contract.

Former Scotland International Martin, who in 2018 had a brief magic of a loan as a player in Ibrox, took over from Barry Ferguson, who in February led the club after the release of Philippe Clement in February.

The 39-year-old has managerial experience with MK DONS, Swansea and Southampton, which he led to the 2024 promotion, before being discharged with the Premier League club bottom last December.

We want to play with courage – Martin

Martin said The official website of the club: “It is a privilege to be appointed by the main coach of the Rangers Football Club at the beginning of this exciting new chapter.

“I know what this club requires. From my time I have a taste of how special this club is, expectation, passion and history. Now, as I am returning, I am determined to return success, for supporters, players and everything in this club.

“I’m here to set standards, work hard and do my best to gain respect for Rangers fans.

“There is a lot to be done, but the goal is clear: the winning matches, win the trophies and give the Rangers team to the team they can be proud of. We want to play with courage, take the ball, be aggressive and get up in big moments.

“Preparing for the preseason are already ongoing. I look forward to meeting the players and the construction of a team in which our fans can believe.”

Fans did not convince Martin’s style

Martin’s appointment received a mixed reception from fans of Rangers, and many highlighted their time in St. Mary’s, during which he criticized for stubbornness to divert himself from his preferred playing style from the back, as a cause for concern.

But Rangers CEO Patrick Stewart is convinced that Martin will establish a culture that will use the club in the long run.

Stewart said: “Our criteria for our next coach were clear: we wanted a coach who would stand out in the sense of the way we want to play, improve culture, develop our composition and eventually win matches. Russell was a candidate.

“This meeting is about the construction of the winning team and a strong culture. He is not a stranger to our club, we expect success and Russell knows that. We are excited about his leadership.”

Rangers finished 17 points behind the Celtics in last season’s Scottish Premiership table.
