Bruno Fernandes explains his decision to stay in Manchester United and reject Saudi Arabia

Bruno Fernandes decided to stay in Manchester United and reject the Saudi side of Al Hilal from the desire to stay at the highest level.

Last week, it was announced that Fernandes seriously considered the AL Hilala’s lucrative offer after the worst season of the Premier League in United History, which is why they finished 15th. The defeat of Tottenham in the Europa League finals ensured that he would not play in the Champions League, and the 2025-26 season was the first from 2014-15 without European football at Old Trafford.

Al Hilal was allegedly willing to pay £ 80m for a midfielder, who was named United’s player of the season for the fourth consecutive campaign.

This type of compensation would be extremely useful for the United Test already signed by Matheus Cunha for £ 62.5 million for Wolves, and it is said to be the leader for striker Bryan Mbuemo Bryanford.

But with United, it is seemingly not in a position in which they should sell Fernandes to finance the overhaul of the Ruben Amorim department, the Portuguese internationaler was chosen to stay at Old Trafford to try to turn wealth and return the club to the European stage.

“President Al Hilala invited me a month ago to ask,” Fernandes said at a press conference ahead of the semi -finals of the Portuguese nation in Germany.

“It was a waiting period on my part to think about what to keep the future. I would be open to it if Manchester United thought it was my time.

“I talked to Mrs. Ruban Amorim, who really tried to utter me from her. I talked to the club, who was not willing to sell, only if I really wanted to leave. We never talked about money; this was all resolved by my agent, not me.

“I talked to my family to realize if this was what I wanted for my future. In fact, my wife asked me – I never said yes or no. She put my professional priorities in front of everything else.

“It would be a light move. I had Ruben Neves and Joao Cancelo there, two people with whom I have a great friendship. But I want to stay at the highest level, play in big competitions, because I still feel capable.

“I want to be happy, I’m still very passionate about this sport and I’m pleased with my decision.”
