Dave King insists that the new American Rangers investors will lead the club back to the top of Scottish football.

Why Cavenagh and 49ers?

“This group of investors that I believe is 100 percent right for the club and now I say that as a fan.

“I am optimistic about the future, I think it is someone the fans can bypass.

“I wouldn’t say that otherwise a supporter, truly, I really believe the club is in the right hands.

“I think that decision was the right decision, otherwise I would certainly not support it and I supported it, and I believe that now we will return the club to the top of football in Scotland.

“How much will it take? I’m not too sure, but I don’t mean too long.

“It won’t be right away, but I think it will be done in a sustainable way, so when we return, we will stay, and that did not happen after 55, we returned, but we did not stay there.

“This time we have to come back and stay, and I think this new group of investors will give it, I’m really, really convinced of it.”

Are there other options?

“I discussed with the Saudi group. At a rather early stage, I was satisfied that they had funds.

“But the question was then: would these be the real owners of the Rangers Football Club? Would you be acceptable to fans in my opinion? And are, let’s say, knowledge and expertise are to take the football club forward?

“They had money. But what they did not have recorded about investing in football clubs. So, I was still engaged with them in earlier stages so that the conditions of financial work could look and how it would work.

“And then, of course, you need a financial plan to take it. You can’t do it all without financing behind it. So you have to bring them together.

“What I liked in my initial conversation with Andrew, and then my subsequent conversation when Parag (Marathe) and 49ers were more involved in part of the consortium, such measured options, where I felt that they understood sports. They were proposed by commercial aspects. They did a fantastic job.

“So I felt that I had this perfect combination. They had a financial muscle we needed and now in the coming years, because things don’t always go well and you have to be able to complement from time to time.

“And they had football and a general sports commercial knowledge and expertise. So, my main focus from that moment was working with the group, but he was trying to keep the Saudis in the background, only if this job was not accomplished for any reason.”

How do you feel about managerial search?

“When you bring in a new manager, I would go to Glasgow’s environment.

“Some think it’s a little unjust, but certainly in my experience of Marko Warburton and others who all thought they got the matter in Glasgow – until you arrive in Glasgow, you don’t get the matter in Glasgow.
