Owen Farrell could return to Saracens next season as a covering injury – if accepting a salary less than what is currently in Racing 92.
Farrell headed to France in 2024 after 16 years in Saracens, but his introductory campaign interfered with the groin injury and the bad form of the team, which led to a proposal to watch the transition to England.
The Sarrieimas are allowed to make a replacement for injuries to Alex Lozowski, whose Ahil’s edition is likely to hand it to Christmas – but Rugby Director Mark McCall says there are obstacles to overcome if Farrell joins the Prime Club.
McCall, whose side missed the playoffs this season, despite the fact that Bath beat Bath in the last game of the regular campaign, he told reporters: “We think we are a little vulnerable at 10.
“The way the procedure functions is to compile a list of people you think might be appropriate.
“Owen was not on the list because it was under the contract with races, but there are some sounds that could be ready to look at it and may be ready to look at it.
“Several things have to happen. One, the races have to let him go and they have to let him go at the price that the club is willing to pay. And another, he has to accept a salary that is less than it is on it.
“If Owen comes to the list, it looks like a pretty good option because of the value for the money he would bring.
“It’s not just a talent, it’s about thinking right in the field. Owen is obviously one of the best in it.”
McCall believes that Farrell would help the development of Saracenses young Muhara Fergus Burke and Louie Johnson, adding: “Owen and Louis, especially, already have a very strong relationship. At least they talk every month.
“Owen is so willing to share his knowledge and his experience with younger players. For our young talents that develop, it could be a great thing there.”
