Ricky Ponting turned Punjab Kings (PBKS) from permanent tickets to serious IPL competitors. Australian legend, known for its aggressive style and sharp brain of the crislette, revealed that he had requested complete control before joining Punjab Kings as the main coach.
After years of heart -cracking and inconsistencies, Punjab Kings finally entered the IPL playoffs after more than a decade. And the loan goes to Ponting, who played it smartly on the IPL 2025 mega auction, where he focused on young and non -stunned talents with raw potential instead of expensive superstars.
He kept only two players, Prabhsimran Singh and Shashank Singh, and built a team designed to play a kind of fearless, offensive cricket he always believed, and the result is under Captain Shreyas Iyer in front of the world.

However, before he signed up as the main coach, Ponting obviously clearly clear that he wanted complete autonomy over decisions. The Australian legend wanted to launch things, and PBKS promised him no interference with no compromise, and the result is absolutely astonishing.
However, before he took the role with PBKS, Ponting had previously trained Delhi Capitals for seven years and took them to the finals of 2020, but could not bring the trophy home. Referring to his journey with Delhi Capitals, the current PBKS coach said there was no point in proven.
The PTI quoted Ricky Ponting: “I didn’t make sure I made sense to prove. With the good teams I had in DC, it was pretty obvious to see where we made it with good players in that squad. We had three years in a row where we made a playoff.
Talking about his new role on PBKS, Ponting revealed that he had only one condition before applying, which was complete control. He wanted to run a coach and shape a auction strategy. And with the help of a smart reconnaissance, Ponting believes that the Kings of Punjab are finally on the right track.
The main coach of the PBKS onwards noted: “I made it clear that when I accepted the job of the main coach (with Punjab Kings) that I want to have a rather full autonomy about the way we are moving into the trainer staff and the way we go in accordance with the auction; our scouts did a great job.”

Former captain who won the World Cup is proud of PBKS’s early failures in IPL 2025. He said the team received the players they wanted, even after losing Glenn Maxwell and Lockie Ferguson because of injuries due to injuries due to injuries, they did not miss the step in the tournament.
Ponting signed, saying, “We got the players we wanted, whether they were younger players or more experienced foreign players. And it has been shown so far that, with Glenn Maxwell and Lockie Ferguson, we have been excluded at the early tournament.”
