Sugar Ray Leonard says that he has returned to Manny Pacquiao from five years of retirement, he has to get used to hitting and tiring high-level training for his WBC champion Welterweight Maria Barrios 19 July.
Sugar Ray mentions that he has retired for five years and has successfully returned. However, Sugar Ray was only 30 when he returned. It will be much harder for 46-year-old Pacquiao to do what Leonard has done because of his age, and they wear everything from a long career.
“When I came back, I didn’t realize it was five years old. HUB TV fightsWhen asked about his thought that Manny Pacquiao returned with 46 after being out of the ring for five years.
The opponent that Leonard fought against AFT, who was outside the ring for five years from 1982 to April 6, 1987, was Marvin Hagler and won him by a 12-round division. Hagler wanted it to be 15 rounds, which would favor him.
“It’s more psychological than it’s physical. You have to have that heart, that feeling. And you know what? I do it? No. No. Maybe he can do it. Maybe he knows it right. It’s just the way you feel. We don’t think it’s stupid. Fighters don’t think that way, said Leonard, who were in a relationship with older thieves.
In the case of Pacquiao, it will also be physical because he is 46 years old, and watched him in the last fight against Yorodenis on August 21, 2021. He lost that fight with a unanimous decision in 12 rounds. You have to understand that even with a big camp, Pacquiao will lose a lot of physical skills he has shown in that fight. What must be hoped for is that Barrios lacks a talent to use it.
“I wish I had, but again, you couldn’t change my mind. I was ready to go to that ring. Not 100%. I will say that. I wasn’t 100% prepared. But I did what I felt I had to do,” Leonard said.
When Sugar Ray struggled, he was fearless, taking killers like Marvin Hagler, Danny Lalonde, Wilfred Benitez, Robert Duran and Tommy Hearns. Towards the end of Leonard’s career, he took an extended break from the ring. If he had constantly fought, he would enjoy even greater success, but he made so much money.
“It’s a big difference,” Leonard said, when asked about his thoughts about Terrence Crawford, as he ranges from 154 to 168 to challenge Canela Alvarez for his undisputed Middle Category Championship 13th September. “When I struggled with Donny Lalonde, every time he hit me, he hurt me to the extent. He doesn’t hit me, but he hurt me, so to speak.”
When Leonard, on November 7, 1988, fought a WBC with Lakim Utem, Donny Lalonnda, he came down with 19-month waste, fighting a larger, younger and stronger guy. One advantage that Sugar Ray had was that Lalonde agreed to go down to 168 with Leonard’s WBC Super Middleweight and Donny’s 175 -pound title on the line. Lalonde looked drained in weighing and maybe influenced the outcome.
“He can do it. There is no doubt about it. That’s true (Canelo is too big for Crawford), but there is always a way to win,” Leonard said.
As Leonard points out, there is a way for a smaller crawford to win if he can find him against Alvarez. He must fight wisely and avoid entering any fire fighting with a bigger, naturally stronger Canel.
Crawford looked visibly slower in his last fight, moving to 154 after a year from the ring to cause Israel Madrid for his WBA junior medium category title. Now, another year outside the ring, Crawford is moving towards 14 kilograms to cause Canela with 168.
It will be slower, more worse and will need a box Alvarez to win. Can he do that? Perhaps. Canelo looked old and tired in his last fight against William Scull on May 3.
