Tottenham’s manager Ange Postecoglou angrily responded to the claims that he was trying to go between a hero or clown for a club in their finals that defined the Europa League on Wednesday.
The Spurs endured a homemade nightmare campaign, the one who saw that they were suffering 21 defeat in the Premier League, in which they could not end no more than 14 years.
But Tottenham will qualify for the Champions League if he beat Manchester United in the Europa League final in Bilbau.
It is unclear whether Postecoglou will stay at the club after this season, but his legacy is likely to determine the events in San Mames.
But he asked about a fine line that shows to tread in the United game, Postecoglou was emphasized in his response.
The appropriate journalist for an evening standard that expressed the phrase of the ‘hero or clown’ in the piece in front of the finals, Postecoglou said, “It depends on your appearance, but I will tell you one thing, no matter tomorrow, I am not a clown and I will never be.
“You really disappointed me to use such terminology to describe a person who, for 26 years, without any services, declared the way to the position in which the club in the European finals.
“To suggest that we do not be successful means I’m a clown, I’m not sure how to answer that question.”
Postecoglou often received criticism that his playing style had left Tottenham open on their backs because they continued to play a high line, while injuries to key players had a clear impact on the richness of Spurs in his second season at the helm.
“It’s hard to contextualize challenges in the last few years,” Postecoglou said. “From my perspective, I entered the club with some rather clear goals.
“I tried as far as possible to adhere to this process in bringing a club to a position where I can cause trophies and at the same time rejuvenate the band and change the style of play. It was a fair task with a lot of challenges along the way.”
“With such a big game tomorrow, there is an opportunity to fulfill at least the main task I got, which was to bring trophies to the club.”
The Spurs have won the United in the League and EFL Cup three times this season, but Postecoglou does not believe that these matches will have nothing to do with this most important game in the season between the sides.
“That’s finally such things don’t matter,” Postecoglou explained.
“What I know is, even your form that enters it, even if you are in a terrible form – it doesn’t matter. It is important how players wear with the occasion, how they cope with understanding the importance of the game – from both clubs. You just don’t know how players will react to such a big occasion.
“My role is to try to prepare players in the best way possible, and also prepare players for Manchester United to be in order. If you get ready and go there and play the potential you can give yourself the opportunity.
“I don’t think it matters what you did before against any opposition when it comes to big games. It may be a little different in the league, but in the big important finale – everything decides on a day.”
