Leicester City referred to an independent commission

Leicester City referred the Premier League to an independent commission for alleged violations of the EFL profitability and sustainability rules for the 2023-24 season.

The foxes were returned to the championship, but the jurisdiction for that question was transferred to the Premier League Tribunal after the Leicester promotion in June 2024.

The Independent Commission will also evaluate two further alleged violations – that they failed to provide the Premier League accounts by December 31, 2024 and did not “provide complete, complete and fast assistance to the Premier League in response to the League inquiries”.

However, they will not face sanctions on the potential violations of PSR regulations in the 2022-23 season after the tribunal ruled that the Premier League was not competent at the time.

The Leicester statement concluded: “In accordance with previous obligations, the club is intended to cooperatively involve this question now that the jurisdiction of the Premier League has been established for the period ended by FY24.

“However, we will not be able to comment on these procedures until they conclude, because of their confidential nature.”

The matter adds another layer of complexity of summer, which will probably see large turns of King Power Stadium.

It would mean that some of the higher club employees are moving, while Jamie Vardy – described the club as “their greatest ever player” – offered emotionally forgiveness during Sunday’s victory over Ipswich.
