Manchester United chief coach Ruben Amorim admitted that on Wednesday he was likely to be without as many as six veterans to travel to Chelsea.
Red devils play for slightly more than pride in the country, and they set their sights firmly at the upcoming Europa League final, and Amorim admitted to selecting their Premier League lines with one eye at the finals in Bilbau.
Centre-Becks Lisandro Martinez and Jonny Evans have been absent for a long time, while young Ayden Heaven has been missing since March. More recently, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt and Diogo Dalot all demolished with injuries.
Not only will most of the latter quartet miss Chelsea game but amorim admitted to fighting for a return for Europa League Finals against Tottenham Hotspur next week.
“I don’t know if he will be available (for the final),” he told Amorim. “We’ll try to push. All players want to play really bad. I don’t think they will go to Chelsea, but for some there is a possibility in the finals.”
Amorim confirmed that he would choose UnitedA team that will face Chelsea, which is mostly based on the protection of their most important players for the finals next week.
“I know the initial XI I think about Chelsea, and then I’ll see,” he said. “Even the way we play there, against Chelsea, I will see him and will be important for the next one.
“We have to perform and they need to perform. This is an important thing. Then, in the same way, if there is a player who can get an injury (and he did not recover for this game, so he will not play him (this) at risk.
“But if it’s not that situation, we’ll have a lot of time to recover. And we can’t spend eight days, nine days without a game. It’s bad for the finals, so I think he’ll be ready to play.”
