Virat Kohli has notified Crown control Committee in India (BCCI) his intentions to withdraw from the test cricken. The decision, which comes just a few weeks before the key Indian series, a five -game test in England, sent shock waves through brotherly cries and left the selectors urging Kochlija to reconsider her move.
According to multiple reports, BCCI confirmed that Kohli had told his desire a few days ago to deviate from the longest format. “He decided and informed the committee that he was starting from the test cricker. A senior official of BCCI is quoted on Indian Express.
The Kochli’s decision closely follows on the heels Withdrawal of Rohit Sharme from the test cricken Earlier this week, leaving the Indian test side on the edge of a significant transition. With both veterans potentially absent, the Indian team faces the appearance that they will perfect the mostly inexperienced middle order for the upcoming series.
The Kochli’s decision arrives after the challenging test season, especially during the Border-Gavascar trophy in Australia 2024-25. Despite the century in the introductory test in Perth, Kohli managed only 186 rides in five matches, and the average plunged to 23.75 for the series. Over the last five years, his test average has decreased, although he is still one of the most fertile Indian cakes with a red ball with 9,230 runs in 123 tests on average 46.85, including 30 centuries.

If Kohli stands with his decision, the Indian test side will lose not only the shock entrance, but also the leader, which is captain of the December 2014 to February 2022, before surrendering to Rohita. Selectors, who led Ayit Agarkar, will face the uphill task of renewing a test for a tour in England, with young players like Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal probably greater responsibility.
However, BCCI made it clear that they wanted to Kohli reconsidering, especially when the English series marked the beginning of the new cycle of the World Cup (WTC) cycle. Selection meetings are scheduled in the coming days, but so far, Kohli has not indicated a change in the heart.
Kohli has already withdrawn from the T20 International after winning the World Cup India last year, although he continued to impress the IPL 2025, collecting 505 runs in 11 games this season at the rate of strike of 143.46.
