Arsene Wenger, a former Arsenal manager, suggested a significant reform of UEFA Europa League qualification rules.
His proposal comes because Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur, both who are fighting in the Premier League, are on the verge of reaching the Europa League final.
Currently, the Europa League winner is earning an automatic place in the following season of the UEFA Champions League, which has been a 2014 rule.
However, Wenger claims that this time to the highest competitions of Europe should be reviewed, especially for teams that weaken the effect in the country.
He believes that the Europa League winners should qualify for the Europa League next season, maintaining the integrity of the Champions League.
As we speak Leg sportsWenger said:
“They should automatically qualify for the Europa League, not necessarily for the Champions League. Especially when you are in a league in which five teams qualify.”
He admits that he is currently aiming to hold a competitive Europa league, but questioned his righteousness when teams like Man United and Tottenham, in the 15th and 16th place, positioned in the Premier League, secure the Champions League videos through this rear.
This perspective has caused a discussion among football experts and fans.
Some argue that the incentive of the Europa League qualifying League League adds the value and competitiveness to the tournament. The time of Wenger’s opinion is crucial here because United and Spurs, both rivals of the club where he has governed for more than two decades, are approaching the winning of the European trophy.
Others, like Wenger, believe that the merits of European football is undermined.
As the last one approaches the final Europe league, with United and Tottenham who have significant guides in their semi -final ties, UEFA may need to re -examine and evaluate the implications of its qualifying rules.
