Newcastle midfielder to miss the rest of the season

Joelinton is likely to play for Newcastle again this season after taking his knee injury.

The 28-year-old midfielder missed the victory over Ipswich last weekend and returned home to Brazil on vacation and recovery.

Entering the weekend trip to Brighton, Magpies lie in third place in the Premier League and look good to return to the Champions League.

Manager Eddie Howe said, “You never exclude him with Joe. He is so motivated that he tried to return.

“We asked for a special opinion, and the opinion was that it was nothing serious, but it took him a period of rest, so he is now in Brazil.

“We will wait and see if we can bring it back before the end of the season, but the likelihood is probably not.”

Lewis Miley, Sean Longstaff and Joe Willock are among the players who have been arguing with Jelinton in the middle of the field.

Howe had several news about positive injuries because the defender Sven Botman was in line with the performance after returning from the injury last weekend.

“Yes, he went through (okay),” the manager said. “This week he trained well, looks good and so big positive to bring him back.”
