I finally got my horizontal back on the road in electric assist mode. It turns out to be a pretty roaming. I have adopted two parallel methods. First, I tried to use Spokes rupture It turns out that you can get custom spoke lengths online, so I got the replacement for 228mm. I then replaced the new spokes with five broken spokes and tried to tighten them by feeling to match them with the neighbors. The wheels looked real, so I tried it in the ride. It’s awful, which means the up and down movement of the front wheels is very obvious. So I took the wheels to the local bike shop. They can’t fix it because they find the edges permanently curved, resulting in flat positions. Remember, I first found 5 broken spokes. No matter what I do, it’s like hitting a very bad pothole, and the 5 spokes that pop up must also bend the edges.
Therefore, the wheels must be rebuilt. It’s not what they do in my local store, so I’m working on a custom wheel builder. Also, I could only get a cheap Truing Stand and a new rim and rebuild the wheels myself. Based on what I read in the video, this doesn’t seem difficult for a standard “two-span” approach.
Fortunately, there are parallel paths. Last November, the manufacturer of my ebike kit, Swytchbike Their kits are for sale. I wanted to get some spare battery and it turns out that selling replacement kits is not expensive than just buying batteries, so I ordered one. When I arrived a few months later, I put the battery into use, but put the kit aside. When I had a broken spoke problem, I finally tried to install it on the horizontal. Unfortunately, the wheels are not exactly suitable for dropout slots on a bike. I contacted customer service and they told me the return window I was there (this is what happened when you waited two months ago to try using the product). But luckily, I can submit the wheels so it’s suitable for dropouts (they have a short video). It turns out to be a kind of exercise. I think my right arm is bigger than my left arm after filing. This is very satisfying when it finally fits.
The new wheel works like a champion plugged into my existing controller. The only adjustment is to set the wheel size on the controller to 20 inches instead of 26 inches. I rode my bike to test it and it was pleasant.
This matches my previous configuration of the horizontal 26-20 Bacchetta Giro. I forgot how comfortable that was. So this is my journey in the foreseeable future, although I will consider pursuing a 26-inch motor reconstruction.
