Max Verstappen spoke of his admiration for the new F1 World Cup Oscar Piastria and praised his “very calm” approach.
McLaren’s Piastra sits at a meeting at a championship driver meeting, first starting at Miami Grand Prix this weekend after winning races back in Bahrein and Saudi Arabia.
Verstappen finished second in Piastra at the last race in one thing after being fined in their first corner of the race and 12 points behind the Australian from the From on the 2025 starting rankings, and Lando Norris is between them in the second McLaren.
“People have been forgetting a little-he was his second year,” said Verstappen 24-year-old Piastra, who has now won five of the last 17 Grands Prix.
“He is now in his third year and is very firm.
“He is very calm in his approach, and I like it. It is shown on the trail.
“He delivers when he has to, barely make mistakes – and that’s what you need when you want to fight for the championship.”
Verstappen also attributed to Piastra manager, former Red Bull driver Mark Webber, for his role in helping driver’s development.
“I think he helps him a lot with Mark next to him. It’s great,” Verstappen added.
“People learn from my own career – I had that with my father, and Mark advises Oscar.
“At the end of the day, Oscar uses his talent and that is great to see.”
Although McLaren remained a team that will win the Bahrein testing at the end of February, Verstappen managed to keep contact with Piastra and Norris at the top of the ladder over five rounds.
Despite the fact that the Red Bull car has been fluctuating in the form of so far, as is illustrated by Verstappen’s results in the recent three-time Japan-Bahrain-Saudi Arabia header.
The Dutchman produced a virtuoso circle to beat McLarens to the key position of half in Suzuki, which allowed him to control the race from the front and win around a circle that is difficult to overtake. A week later, Bahrein also saw Red Bull fighting for tire decay, as Verstappen ended 34 seconds behind Victor Piastra in the sixth.
But then he returned to the pace of Fast Jeddah Street, delivered the amazing pole again before he initially collected a five -pointed penalty for cutting his first chic in the battle of Piastra, which eventually saw him fall behind the Australian after serving him in the pits.
“I think we have to find more total performance, especially balance and, of course, consistency,” Verstappen said.
“We’re not good in every track. That’s quite clear.
“Bahrain, we missed a lot. (Saudi Arabia), sure, it was much better. But as I said, it is also a very low degree and then more cars revive. So, we still have to work, but at least (Jeddah was) a promising result.”
