Alexander Zverev warned that he painted the ball at Madrid Open while controversy was a call to Clay because of the electronic line.
The system has become common in other surfaces in recent years, but clay events have been mostly persistent on line judges, and the judge descended from their chair to test the trail that the ball left when the calls were challenged.
There were also doubts about the accuracy of the electronic system given the way clay moves, but the judges this season were removed from all events on the ATP tour and many on the WTA tour.
The predictions that this could be shown could be problematic, with the latest player who remained the latest player with a call during his victory 2-6 7-6 (3) 7-6 (0) over Spanish Alejandra Davidovich Fokin in the third round in Madrid.
At the first point 10 of the 10th game in the second set, and the moments after his opponent challenged the call, Zverev was convinced that Davidhich Fokin had landed widely, telling Judge Mohamed Lahyani that there was a “abuse in the system” after being called.
When the protesters came to him, Zverev took the phone out of his bag and captured a picture of the tag, earning a warning for unsportsmanlike behavior.
World Aryna Sabalenka number one experienced the same situation in Stuttgart earlier this month, while Victoria Azarenka posted a picture of a call from another Madrid match on social media.
The French Open has remained extraordinary so far and will continue with line judges for the tournament next month.
Somewhere else in the Spanish capital, defending champion Andrey Rublev lost 6-4 0-6 6-4 from Alexander Bud and, as a result, he will throw out of the top 15 world.
In a woman’s draw, the top seed Sabalenka had to fight the set to see Elise Mertens 3-6 6-2 6-1, but the third seed of Jessica Pegula and the sixth seed of Jasmine Paolini fell.
Pegula beat the Japanese Moyuka 6-3 6-2, while Paolini Maria Sakkari, who re-enrolled in 6-2 6-1 this week after reuniting with British coach Tom Hill.
