A week passed, full of strange and wonderful in IPL.
Let’s start with one of the most unusual things you will ever see on the cricket field-14-year-old, who made his debut in the largest cricken tournament in the world and hit his first ball for six!
When Vaibhav Suryavanshi signed Rajasthan Royals on auction while another 13 people, he did not expect him to make the initial XI – it seemed more likely to use the year to acclimatize the intensity of IPL.
But when Sanja Samson was injured by Rahul Dravid threw him to the deep end and not just swam, he took the water like Michael Phelps!
Not only did he hit the international bowlers (Shardul Thakur) on six first balls, that was the way he did it. This was not the upper edge that flew over the guard’s head, made a space and broke Thakur over an extraordinary blanket with complete contempt.
If there was ever a moment that shone in the spotlight of IPL’s influence on the Indian cricket, that was it.
Young Indian players are now grown to be on the biggest stage, and when they get there, they are prepared and ready, even if in an era where they do not need to shave yet.
All they know is IPL – the competition has already lasted three seasons when Suryavanshi was born.
Because of this, you wonder if we need to start watching the age a little different in the UK. In India (and Pakistan on this issue), the attitude was always “if you are good enough, you are old enough.”
Are we sometimes guilty of assuming that the players are not on a sign based on a young age? Suryavanshi is admittedly incredibly talented freaks of nature, but it’s food to think.
As always in IPL, there are great stories that include both young and old.
At the age of 33, Karun Nair is hard to ‘get old’, but he approached very close that he had forgotten him. Eight and a half years ago, he achieved an amazing test of a triple century against England in Chennai. Three test tests later, he was discarded and never saw again in that arena.
A chronic loss of form and confidence followed, culminating in the rejected by his state team (Karnataka) and the famous Tweet 2022, which read “Dear Crushk, give me another opportunity.”
After a re -rise in the form when he transferred the states to Vidarbh, that chance duly arrived this season for Delhi Capitals. After not picked up at the IPL auction for the past three years, he hit the sparkling 89 in his first scams and looked like Nair Old – a fantastic Thaimo ball with a simple, striking technique.
IPL seems to be a great place to start your career, but it is also the perfect platform to restart.
That was wonderful, it was strange to Ishan Kishan, who decided to start off the field, thinking that he lagged behind the Wickekeeker, when they showed the reruns that it was not.
Playing against his old late Mumbai for Sunrizers, Deepak Chahar beat him harmless delivery that swings down his leg that Ryan Rickelton took in a nonchalant.
No one complained or even hit the eyelid. Except Kishan, who turned neatly and headed back to the pavilion.
The view of the judge’s face was invaluable – he was preparing to signal widely, but when he saw Kishan walking, a sudden panic look washed him and eventually gave him a signal that they could only describe 50 percent wide, 50 percent!
It was an extremely bizarre moment and I can’t imagine Kishan would go wrong again in a hurry. In fact, I expect the Stuart Broad in its next stacks and refuse to walk even if it breaks the ball straight to the first skating!
Mumbai has pleasantly won the game and has now been officially charged, winning four on a bounce.
The return of Jasprit Bumrah gave the end attack on bowling, Trent Boult finds its shape, and Suryakumar Yadav again looks worldwide stroke with a baton.
Less than two weeks ago, the Indians looked at the pace and wondered where their next victory came from – things can change in the T20 tournament so quickly.
With only two points currently separating the top from the sixth in the table, we could be for a very tense and exciting end of the group stage.
