Outgoing Director of Football Everton Kevin Thelwell should join Rangers, Sky Sports News understand.
Gers Executive Director Patrick Stewart is looking for a new sports director from February and looks like he will move for a 51-year-old, who moved to the Merseyside Club from New York Red Bulls in 2022.
Thelwell – who also worked in Wolves, Derby and Preston North End – confirmed in March that he would leave Toffees at the end of his contract, in the midst of numerous structural changes in the club.
During his three years in the Premier League clothing, Thelwell has monitored difficult periods that included fights with PSR rules, points deductions, a battle against relegation and a change in managers.
However, he saw that the club receives £ 226 million, the transfer fee, while spending only £ 145m in six transfer windows. For the context, nine pages of the Premier League spent more than £ 100m in the last summer window alone.
Despite the fighting from the field and the circumstances that led to a lack of consumption, he should step down with Everton on the rise under David Moyes and enter the new stadium next season.
It is understood that Thelwell has met the older Ibrox figures lately, and visited club objects in Glasgow.
The Rangers should be taken over by US investors, and the health tycoon Andrew Cavanagh and 49ers Enterprises have concluded in the agreement to acquire a checking share in Ibrox.
In January, Executive Director Stewart ordered the “Review of the entire football department” because he seemed to return success to the club.
The Ibrox chief confirmed that the appointment of a sports director was identified from an external examination and has been working on search since.
The Rangers have won only one league title in 14 seasons and have released three managers of 2022 – Stewart said that appointment would have “responsibility for the entire football operations throughout the club.”
He added that the appointment would be “an experienced football person who would be responsible for all aspects of the football club to ensure that they work together to fulfill our Holistic associated plan”.
Rangers have been operating without a sports director since Ross Wilson went to Nottingham Forest in April 2023.
