Thatcher Demko enters the last year of his contract with Vancouver Canucks. Once the new league year begins after the playoffs next year, Demko will become a free agent. However, he is open to stay with Canucks.
He has been with the team since he started his career in 2017-18. He still has not played for another team, and this stage of his career is not necessarily interested in it.
“I always wanted to be Canuck,” Demko said on Saturday (H/T Canucks Army). “From day one, I wanted to be here. I drew here. I would love to finish the extension and stay here. That’s something Patrick (Allvin) and my agent start talking.”
While these two hash things are, Demko will not get too involved in negotiations. His focus remains on his return to the upper form, and he will let the contract be sorted.
“I’ll let them focus on that,” Demko said. “I’m focused on returning where I know I can be. Everything will play.”
Demko will earn $ 5 million this season and amounts to $ 29. If Canucks cannot reach an agreement and change that salary to something in the long run, the Demko will be in the open market for about a year.

Although Thatcher Demko is interested in returning to Vancouver Canucks, he knows that he is not the only potentially paid goalkeeper on the list. In February, Canucks signed Kevin Lankinen on a five -year contract of $ 22.5 million. Ends after the 2029-30 season.
“I think (Lankinen) deserved every dollar he got,” Demko said. “He had a great season for us this year. He kept us alive through the sections of the season. For me he was a great partner of a goalkeeper and I really enjoyed working with him and having him around.”
He admitted that Vancouver had committed himself to his colleague in the net, but said he did not change how he felt. Demko still wants to come back, and he thinks it would give it a good, healthy connection in the network of which Canucks will benefit.
