Scottie Scheffler says it was “really cool” to congratulate Rory McIlroy after northern Irishman won masters to complete Grand Slam in his career.
On Sunday, McIlroy beat Justin Rose in Play -off in Augusta National to become a sixth man -and the first European -to win at least once each of the four golf four majorettes.
Scheffler, like last year’s Masters Champion, handed McIlroy with his green jacket and says he could feel the “relief” of the world no. 2.
McIlroy finished Grand Slam at 11 attempt and 11 years after the previous main title – PGA Championship 2014 in Valhalli.
World No 1 Scheffler said, “It was cool to see him doing a job, really cool to be there at that moment and congratulate him and just see the joy on him and his family.
“He did everything in Golf’s game and that was really the last thing he had achieved.
“The guy won FedExcup, players, all four major. Maybe the only other thing would be an Olympiad he would like to win.
“It was such an emotional day for him. I just tried to get out of the way and turn on the jacket without shaving it. I have to watch the whole celebration.”
Scheffler has won two main titles to this day – and at the Masters after the 2022 triumphs and 2024 – while he finished second in the US Open and PGA Championships.
“I have no understanding of what it’s like to be asked about the Grand Slam career, but I understand a little what it is like to ask me,” Hey, you have achieved that, but you haven’t achieved that, “Scheffler said.
“Sometimes it can be very taxed. It definitely looked much more like relief from the outside than anything (for Rory).”
Asked if he would take inspiration from McIlroy’s success, Scheffler said he was focused on “pulling out the maximum.”
28 -year -old – who ended the Solo fourth on Masters on Eight Under – it will look like this week will successfully defend RBC heritage at the Links for Golf in Harbor Town in South Karolina, live on the live Sky Sports Golf from 12.30 on Thursday.
Scheffler’s victory in Hilton Head a year ago was one of the seven he achieved at PGA Tour in 2024 – except for the Olympic gold in Paris – but one has yet to secure the victory this season.
He added, “The feeling you have received from winning the tournament is quite special. For me, I would like to last longer than he did. It doesn’t take a very long time.
“Has it quite terribly watched Rory win Grand Slam? Of course it was. But as for my life, I try to stay in the present. I don’t think often about my career goals.
“Winning Grand Slam in my career, I think I would dream of any golfer, but at the end of the day, I’m just trying to get the most out of myself. It’s about it.”
