Inter Milan performed “out of budget and salary” to break Bayern Munich

Inter Milan’s manager Simone Inzaghi said his side hit their weight as they dropped Bayern Munich in the Champions League thriller in San Sirou.

Former Tottenham duo Harry Kane and Eric Dier were target for visitors, but two fast goals from the laid pieces of Lautar Martinez and Benjamin Pavard were enough to advance 4-3 to the aggregate to face Barcelona in the semifinals.

Inter reached the finals of 2023 – losing to Rodra’s strike for Manchester City – and last abolished the 2010 trophy, also against Bayern.

Inzaghi said, “It’s a wonderful evening, which comes against a very strong team.

“There were two great games, but the guys were great. Victory is to share it with everyone.

“Now let’s move on: it’s a long and difficult season, but it gives us so much emotion.

“Against such a team, it gives you even more satisfaction: outside the budget and salary.

“Bayern are extraordinary, but we answered Blow for Blow in Munich and here in San Siro. We have been with these guys for almost four years despite all the difficulties.

“We built a team that brought trophies, a pleasure that brings back the work.”

None of the Italian side won the Champions League since Jose Mourinho Inter Inter government 15 years ago, with the defeat of Inter two years ago, and Juventus lost the finals in 2015 and 2017.
