Chief Aston Villa Unai Emery stated that he was “proud” from his team after their appearance against Paris Saint-Germain, but insisted that his team deserved to play in the Champions League.
Villa started fixing a 3-1 deficit to the aggregate after defeating Parc des princes last week, before receiving two wounds of Achraf Hakimi and Nuno Mendes in the Otvak Park.
The rejected effort of the Youra Tielemans withdrew one back before halftime, and Captain John McGinn and Ezri Kons hit the intervals of two minutes after re-launching to achieve a tantalized ending with a grade ready for 5-4 in the tie.
Villa had a chance to get the level through Marc Asensio, playing against her home club and Kons, but eventually failed before she cut out of competition with her heads.
“I’m very proud of everything we did,” Emery said Amazon Prime.
“To come to this level is the best step forward to get to the place where I want to be with the Aston villa.
“We competed well in the first part, but not enough. We were still better and today we came back. The last step forward is still (missing), and this is the only (aspect) I want (to work on) for our procedure.”
Villa now faces a short turn before another key conflict because they hosted colleagues Champions League Chasers Newcastle, Live on Sky SportsThis Saturday. Magpies currently sit in fourth place, two points ahead of the villa in the seventh, with a game in hand.
Emery continued at his press conference: “The players showed the capacity. We beat Bayern Munich and we won tonight, the players showed their capacity at this level, they are here because they deserve to be here and confronted with matches as they are today.
“I want a club with the same challenges as I do – adding more quality players if we need it – so proud of these players, convinced that we will get our goals to the last match we will face.”
The villa captain launched the second half after driving deep in the PSG half and shot in the upper corner. It insists, despite being out of competition, the team can be proud of their efforts and the path they were on.
In 2018, McGinn signed for a villa from Hibernian and played a big role in their climb from the second level of English football to competition with the European elite.
“Obviously disappointment, but I’m proud of my teammates, proud of the club,” he said Amazon Prime. “We have crossed the long way. We were so, so close to tonight. We just went a bit.
“We had a chance to take the game to an extension, but we have to be proud of the way we came back against one of the best teams in the world to fight to the end.
“We want more. We want to come back here next season and we will do our best to do it.”
When asked what Emery said at halftime, when his side was still staring at a 5-2 barrel bar to an aggregate, McGinn added: “He said,” I’m proud of the performance, continue on, you just never know. “
“We never gave up. It was chaos, but we gave absolutely everything and I think every Aston Villa fan will leave with a great sense of pride.”
Consu echoed the claims of his manager and captain, and at the same time referenced the chance that he missed when the cross of Marcus Rashford flashed across the face of the naked, but the defender failed to establish the necessary connection from the void range.
“I’m proud of the boys,” Consa said. “Two goals at the start killed us, but we showed a great conviction and character to return to him. We won the second part, but that was not enough.
“At halftime we felt we had nothing to lose. We wanted to go out and prove a point. We had a chance, I think I scored the hardest. I think we couldn’t do anymore. I missed the ball (for the head of chance), that happens.
“Donnarumma made great savings. Tonight we showed that we can compete at the highest level and want to do it again next season.”
PSG chief Luis Enrique acknowledged a humorous appearance from the villa and even claimed that he had not seen that the team was dominating “before traveling to Western Midlands.
“I don’t think this team dominated the team this way, but the opponent had to take risks because they were leaving the competition.
“They were attacking both real intensity and in front of a great crowd. We will be training with this experience.
“I was not happy at the end of the first half. We played at a level that did not match the Champions League. Then in the second half we really suffered and Villa had a chance to equalize.”
