Rory McIlroy described his career Grand Slam-Cincing to win the masters as the best day of his golf life, while Justin Rose dropped Justin Rose in the Play-off, after an extraordinary last day at August National.
McIlroy recovered from losing his advantage with a two -hole with a double hole in the open hole to extend forward in four, only to blow that guidance over his closing six holes.
The last forced McIlroy to repeat the 18th against Rose, who earned his play-offs with a stunning final circle 66, where he fired a great approach to three meters from the needle and achieved a bird win.
“I feel amazing,” McIlroy said as he got into the first green jacket in the Butler’s cabin. “This is my 17th time here and I started to wonder if it would ever be my time?.
“I would say that it was 14 years old, since leaving the quadrilateral guidance in 2011. – Feeling like I could have done it there. There were many stunned emotions that just came out 18. Green. But the moment makes all the years and close calls.”
With his victory, McIlroy finished 11-year-old drought in the main tournaments, earned the fifth title and the first to August National-14 years, as mentioned, the final collapse of 2011.
He also saw that he had only become a sixth golfer in history who completed his career of Grand Slam, joined Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods.
At his press conference, McIlroy spoke about the challenge of the search for this goal in the past decade.
“I have worn that burden since August 2014, almost 11 years – not just about winning my next major, but also in the Grand Slam career, to join only five players to do so,” he said.
“I watched many peers get green jackets in the process; it was difficult. I tried to approach this tournament with the most positive attitude every time I appeared, and I think the accumulative experience I gained by returning here every year, I feel like a little more comfortable recordings needed.
“But he’s talking about it and actually doing it. It was a great weight to wear, but fortunately I don’t have to wear it and I hope it releases me. I know I’m going back here every year, which is nice!”
McIlroy added: “I will not compare it to life moments like a marriage or a child, but it’s the best day in my golf life.
“I am very proud of myself. I am proud that I never give up. I am proud of how I was constantly coming back and dusting and not letting go of disappointments to come to me.”
Like McIlroy’s collapse when he led Masters in 2011, he recently left the final circles of slipping through his fingers outdoors in the Open 2022, and at the US Open in the back in the past years of 2023 and 2024.
Leading two who entered the last day of the master, McIlroy saw that it disappeared as soon as he was twice hitting the opening. Then, after renewing a four -stroke advantage by the age of 13, another double saw that soon turned out.
There were extraordinary shots and gains among McIlroy’s mistakes, and in the end one such approach when reproduced 18 in play-off earned the title.
“You have to be an eternal optimist in this game,” McIlroy said. “I used to say that until I’m blue in my face, but I really believe I’m a better player now 10 years ago.
“It’s so hard to stay patient, keep going back and not be able to do it.”
The 35-year-old added: “It was difficult today; this morning I was incredibly nervous, while you were witnesses double on the first hole.
“I was able to refuse and show that resistance I spoke a lot on. There were points on the back to which I thought, ‘Did I let it go again? “But I answered and I’m really proud of myself.
“It was an emotional week, so I’m delighted to stand the last man.”
Also, when asked what he would now say to his younger self, who blew up that quadrangular leadership at 2011, McIlroy replied: “Having self-reflexions and going through the difficulties of heavy losses (helps), so I would say to any young girl or boy to continue to believe.
“I literally made my dreams come true, so if you work hard enough, you can achieve anything.”
