Jaron Ennis stopped Eimantas Stanionis in the Boardwalk Hall at Atlantic City to combine the IBF and WBA Welterweight World Cup.
Stanionis’s corner pulled him out after a sixth round with a Lithuanian injury after the fall.
Ennis forced the cells on the ropes and sent it to one knee with a series of upper cuts and shots of the body.
“I just picked it up. I knew he would go from another round, from certain things he did,” Ennis said.
It was the first loss that Stanionis took over in his professional career.
“When I fight top guys, good guys, you’ll see that,” Ennis said. “You will see completely differently for me. When I’m in the ring, I’m in my happy place. When I have a top guy and fight for something, it’s a completely different story. I can’t mess with me.
“Everything falls in order. It’s a perfect time.”
27-year-old Ennis is now undefeated in 34 fights, ending 30 within a distance.
With that victory, Ennis could seek further fighting for unification of the following. Brian Norman holds a 147 LBS WBO championship with Mario Barrios, WBC belt.
“I would beat anyone in the world,” Ennis said. “I’m the best fighter in the world. I’m constantly talking – these fighters can’t mess with me.”
