Edmonton Oilers defender Mattias ekholm He could be out for a while, if not the rest of the season, claims Insider Ryan Rishaug.
Ekholm, who missed seven games due to injury, returned to ice against San Jose Sharks on Friday night. However, Ekholm left the ice after two shifts and 1:52 ice weather. He obviously responded to the injury, causing him to return to the locker room.
By the end of the first period, Mattias Ekholm was officially excluded for the rest of the game.
At this point, it is unclear whether the brutal blow to the Oilers line can have a lasting impact. Peri Rishaug, the injury could end Ekholmovi season:
“Tough news for Oilers and Ekholm. Listening to that further tests have to be made, but it is believed that the serious injury is that the worst scenario may end its season, the best scenario will keep it aside for a long time.”
The best case scenario indicates that Mattias Ekholm “puts it aside for a long time.” However, this vague expression does not determine how long it could be.
As a result, the oilers recalled Cam Dineen and Derek Ryan of Ahl’s Bakersfield Kondor. Dineen is likely to slide into the third pairing with Troy Stetcher, as the club classifies what to do in Ekhom’s absence.
Earlier this week, Oilers put John Klingberg on Ltir, leaving Oilers with three defenders. Jake Walman is also on the shelf, but he could come back at some point before the NHL’s 2025 playoffs began.
Shortly after Mattias Ekholm left the victory on Friday night 4-2 over Sharks, Zach Hyman also left the game. Hyman He was seemingly caught with Henry Thrun’s stick, which made him leave the game.
According to the Daily Faceoff, Hyman was injured, but there is no word of what his illness might be or how long he can be outside, if at all.
Oilers are already down the Leon Draisaitl and Trent Frederic in their forward group. Frederic, acquiring a trade deadline, has yet to be made in the oiler.
Then, there is Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, which is still recovering from the disease and missed Friday against sharks. It remains to be seen if he can return to the next slope against Oiler, on Sunday night against Winnipeg Jets.
All in all, the oilers were decimated with injuries in the worst possible team. The team hopes that he will gradually return the players one by one as the regular season and the playoffs of the NHL 2025 are completed.
