‘We believe in Villa Park’

Unai Emery insists that his side Aston Villa still believes, although on Wednesday, he fell to a 3-1 PSG defeat in their quarterfinal first leg of the Champions League on Wednesday.

Morgan Rogers gave Villa a surprise in the angry prince Parc des after 35 minutes, but the exalted goals from the desire of Doue, Khvich Quadratskhelia and Nuno Mendes completed the return for the dominant champions of Ligue 1.

The result means that Emery’s side has a monumental task on his hands in the second leg if they want to hope that they will progress to the last four European elite club competition.

But the Villa Chief believes that with his home support, his team has the ability to be caused by upset next week at Villa Park.

“More or less expectations I had in 90 minutes (tonight) happened,” Emery admitted.

“The result, it may not have a big difference between 2-1 and 3-1 because we will play at home next week. It will still be a big challenge for us, but at home we can feel strong.

“We knew before the game that we should have been clinical and we were clinically in the first half. The second half no.

“The match is the first leg. Of course the result is not good for us, but it could be one positive to be home where we can get momentum and take advantage of our power.

“We believe in our support, we believe in Villa Park. We believe that players can give the best effect next week.”

Rogers repeated the feelings of his manager, adding that the players had nothing to lose.

“We have another leg to try to turn it and we will go for everything and try to win the tie and, in the end, we will see where it leads us,” Rogers said.

“We didn’t want to come here (Paris) and just be viewers. We wanted to participate and try to compete. I felt we did it for the big parts. Obviously the result is not great, but we have another game and we will try to turn it.

“We have quality in our locker room. We are here for a reason. We want to fight, we want to try and win and in the end we have enough quality to create any team in world problems.

“We have nothing to lose. Nobody won us first, so why not just go for it. It’s a mentality I have, it’s a mentality that we all have a manager.

“We have to continue further and continue to believe that we can and see where it leads us. We definitely have the quality to reverse it, so it has not been done yet.”

Villa was welcomed by PSG at Villa Park on Tuesday night, starting at 8:00 pm in the UK.
