UK set the host 2035 women’s World Cup as just a ‘valid’ offer

The United Kingdom should host the 2035 World Cup as the only “valid” tournament bidder, according to FIFA President Gianni Infantino.

The joint offer was submitted in March by England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, suggesting that the tournament had been to the four domestic states for 10 years.

FIFA -In the Hosting Rotation Rules require that competition be held either in Europe or Africa for that edition.

Last week, Rafael Louzan, president of the Spanish Football Federation, indicated that Spain explore a joint offer with Portugal and Morocco.

However, with the Declaration Declaration Deadline, which is now closed, Infantino confirmed that the submission in the UK is the only official offer for 2035. In the meantime, the United States remains a leader who will host the 2031 tournament.

“Today, as part of the competition, I can confirm that we have received one offer for 2031 and one valid offer for 2035,” Infantino announced at the UEFA Congress in Belgrade.

“The offer of 2031 are the United States of America and the potentially some other members of the Concacaf, and the offer 2035 from Europe and the domestic peoples.

“So the path is there that the Women’s World Cup in 2031 and 2035 takes place in some great nations and further enhances the women’s football movement.”

Mark Bullingham, the FA Executive Director, was delighted with the news.

He added: “We are honored to be the only FIFA bidder for women in 2035. Hard work begins to compile the best offer by the end of the year.”

Sarina Wiegman, Chief Lionaese coach, said: “We know from the euro experience (2022) how big the game has already been here and what the momentum has done in the country. The second tournament on an even bigger stage would be amazing and provided another reinforcement of the game.”

Formal offers must be submitted this winter, and FIFA is set to confirm the hosts by voting at their Congress 2026.

Infantino also revealed that the World Cup for Women 2031 will expand to 48 teams, which is more than 32 teams planned for the 2027 edition.

If confirmed, the tournament in 2035 would mark the second time when the World Cup was held in the UK after a 1966 male tournament in England.
