Last week, I felt great and made some long rides. But after a particularly arduous journey last Wednesday, my sciatica broke out again, this time on the left. For several days, I kept me awake on performance nights because I couldn’t find a sleeping spot and there was no severe pain emitting the left leg. Fortunately, after a few days of rest and no ride, it calmed enough so I could sleep since last Saturday. On Saturday I did some relaxed arm bikes and since then I could easily ride for 30 minutes without any pain. So, I think the inflammation is lowering and the sciatic nerve is not compressed too much. I’m also doing all the PT I know to open the area. I will continue to ride slowly and easily over the next few days. I know that exercises in past experiences will take up to two weeks to clear easily. This episode is very scheduled, as it has been raining here recently, so I won’t miss too much because of the restricted ride.
Fortunately, it’s been a few months since I last round. I intend to reduce the average daily training to 90 minutes or less to avoid relapses again. Last week, it drifted in two hours every day when the relapsed attacks. I will also try to do better to strengthen the muscles that stabilize the hips and lower back areas.
