Spanish prosecutors should complain of a court verdict that canceled the conviction of raping former Brazilian international footballer Dani Alves.
Alves, a three -time winner of the Champions League with Barcelona, ββwas found guilty last year for raping a young woman in the Spanish Night Club 2022. He was sentenced to four and a half years in prison.
However, on Friday, the Barcelona Court canceled the initial verdict, citing inconsistencies and contradictions in the Alves trial.
The court ruled that there was not enough evidence to prove his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
The appellant also described the accused as an “unreliable applicant”, stating that her testimony “significantly differentiated” from the video recorded before she and Alves entered the bathroom, where she claimed to have forced her to have a non -consensual sex.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office in Catalonia confirmed in a statement that he was planning to challenge the verdict, but did not provide further details.

In response to the decision of the appellant’s court, hundreds of demonstrants gathered in Barcelona on Monday in a protest that organized feminist groups. Many carried signs that condemn the verdict as “unacceptable” and demand that they be canceled.
Deputy Prime Minister Maria Jesus Montero said that “the shame” that the testimony of the rape victim “is still questioning” and that “it is said that” the assumption of innocence is used by the advantage over the testimony of young, brave women. “
She later apologized on Tuesday, explaining that she did not intend to “question the assumption of innocence.” However, she claimed that the decision of the appellant’s court was annulled by Alves’ conviction “step back”.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, who positioned himself as a feminist, is a priority to fight sexual violence. His administration reformed the criminal law in the country in 2022, redefining all the non -consensual sex as rape.
This legal change came in response to the case of an 18-year-old woman, who was raped by five men during a festival for running bulls in Sanplona.
Alves, who is now 41 years old, was closed after his arrest in January 2023. He remained in custody until March 2024, when he was released with a guarantee of one million euros (Β£ 853,000) while waiting for the outcome of his appeal.
