Former Chelsea manager Roberto di Matteo suggested that Blues could make a new striker signing this summer.
Although Di Matteo, who won the Champions League with Chelsea in 2012, was full of praise by Nicolas Jackson, he also made it clear that his old club could do with more in the field.
Jackson was not fully convincing during his stay at Stamford Bridge So far, even if he shows him signs that he could develop into a top -not -class player with a little more experience under the belt.
Di Matteo would be ideal like Chelsea if he now has someone with such experience and proven records, and has potentially played that new striker ahead of Jackson.
This would mean a change of formation for CFC manager Enzo Maresca, who played only one ahead this season.
Speaking exclusively to Ladbrokes, Di Matteo made it clear that the first position he would look at this summer would be in front.
“When it comes to strengthening the team in the summer, I would probably look through the middle, first of all. It’s a very talented team, but they probably miss a little experience, perhaps, in terms of players who have had a lot of success, playing many years in the Premier League, knowing certain ways to win the games,” Di Matteo said.
“You can only gain this experience with time and minutes in the league. I like Nicolas Jackson a lot, and he is someone who can only be better. I still think, Chelsea needs a striker who will score 25 goals in the season – if you want to win the league or a challenge, that’s what you need.
“This is not a criticism of Jackson though; I also think the other striker would allow you to play with two in advance sometimes.”
