There are two sides of Sonia Bompastor. When she first arrived at Chelsea, she was a cold, calm presence on a touch line in her months of introductory months. Now we see the other side.
Looking at her at Stamford Bridge in Winning Return of Champions League in Manchester CitySometimes there was the opposite of calmness.
Frustration towards the bench until Chelsea was able to accumulate from the back in the first half, followed by a roar towards officials while an appeal to Erin Cuthbert was rejected. Then, intense applause and encouragement at the time of stopping to maintain the intensity of the team in moments of dying.
“When you arrive at March, April and May, you start to feel my voice is different,” says Bompastor Sky Sports.
“At the beginning of the season, I tried to find good ways to bring confidence in my composition to realize that it is possible to achieve a lot of things in this club.
“But now it’s time to turn words into actions on the field. These are moments that are really crucial in the season.”
We are sitting with Bompastor at club training the day after the classic Chelsea performance. Returning to the wall, with doubt he started crawling through a first leg deficit with two goals, the Blues discovered that the second gear of the transmission had crossed the line.
The definition of the ‘Chelsea Way’ culture, which the predecessor of Bompastor Emma Hayes, has taken to the club. Damaged by the first defeat of the season in that first leg, players in the locker room went deeper into each other and found a way to win.
Not just a victory on Thursday night, but also in the Super League Women’s match at Etihad Stadium five days earlier – to keep that healthy breathing space on the single.
The four -legged dream is alive again. For the second year in a row, Chelsea has four playing trophies, and we are in the last week of March. Quite simply, there is aura regarding this team that even in troubles there is an inevitability that they will have the last word.
“When you have to deal with only one game from the beginning of the season, I think you are going to play in doubt,” says Bompastor.
“As an opposition, if you want to beat us and win, you will have to be at your best level. And I think it’s something that is great for us.
“I always tell my players: Make sure we just hurt the opposition in every game, make sure we play the way we want to hurt them mentally and physically.
“It may not be the right word to say” hurt “, but mentally we just want to be the killers when we get into the game.”
The way Chelsea ‘killed’ hopes in the Champions League Man City was through pure determination – but also numbers. While their opponents had only five replacements, the rotated Chelsea stars ensured that additional gear to turn the tie on their heads.
Cuthbert and Wieke Kaptein Deep Races from the Bamboozled midfielder are in the middle of the park on the semi -fit Yui Hasegawa.
The Gracie Praior city defender twice ran the ball to Lauren James in the first half – once only two minutes, and then in the buildup to the crucial third Chelsea to take them.
After the game, the city’s temporary chief Nick Cushing questioned his team could compete when Cuthbert, winner Mayra Ramirez and Keira Walsh played only 20 minutes for a weekend for Chelsea and then started with fresh legs in the quarterfinals.
The depth was crucial for Chelsea that produces that elite mentality of always threats and never give up.
However, it has its disadvantage.
On Friday morning, Bompastor spent talking to CHELSEA’s midfielder Sophie Ingle, who, like Sam Kerra, was not involved all season due to ACL injury.
Blues have made 49 changes in their team this season in WSL, eight more than any other side, so imagine if the two are part of the picture!
“It was a really good conversation,” Bompastor says about his conversation with Ingle. “She just said, ‘It’s hard when you have so many players and a talented team to make everyone happy. “And I said,” Yes, that’s true. “
“Everyone is so happy to go through and be qualified for the Champions League semi -finals.
“But at the end of the day, as a man, as an individual, you also think about the fact that you didn’t play the game. And that’s what you want to achieve. You want to play in the biggest games.
“I just told my players: Through this block (from the games) you will have different statuses. Sometimes you will start the game. Sometimes you won’t be on the team. Sometimes you will be a finisher.
“And no matter what status you have, you are here to help the team. And I know that sometimes, in terms of emotions, it is difficult. But most importantly, it is about the club, the team and what we achieve together at the end of the season.”
Bompastor will re -rotate his package on the eve of another big test: a home game against a rejuvenated West Ham WSL, live on Sky Sports.
With a lead of eight points and the remaining five games, Blues know that three wins will be enough to be once more champions. That could be two, should Arsenal and Man Ud enter points in the coming weeks.
No matter when Chelsea finishes a job, there is still a lot of reasons to continue his winning mentality, namely because of the recorded records.
Win on Sunday and they will set a new club record for the most favorable home win (19). They are also 12 points from breaking record points for one WSL season, while the goal is to be the first team to go through the entire campaign of the best flight undefeated.
“For some people, these are probably details, but they are really important to me,” said Bompastor, who herself wants to become only another manager who won the title in his debut WSL campaign.
“We want to be part of history. Being part of history is to ensure that we win titles, we achieve our ambitions, but we also knock down records.”
