Russian born world no. 12 Daria Kasatkina transferred belonging to Australia after her application for permanent residence was accepted.
The 27-year-old was critical of Russian limitations and attitudes according to LGBT rights and strongly opposed the war in Ukraine.
In a statement posted on her Instagram account on Friday, Kasatkina, the winner of the eight singles titles, she wrote: “I am delighted to have let everyone know that the Australian government has accepted my application for a permanent residence.

“Australia is a place I love, it is incredibly kind and the place I feel completely at home. I like to be in Melbourne and look forward to making my home there.
“As part of this, I am proud to announce that I will present my new homeland in Australia in my professional tennis career from this point.
“Obviously, there are parts of this decision that were not easy. I want to express gratitude and gratitude to my family, coaches and everyone who supported me during my tennis trip to this day.
“I will always have respect and gratitude for my roots, but I am delighted to start this new career chapter and my life under the Australian flag. Thank you all for your understanding and constant support.”
