Joey Barton received a 12-week suspended prison sentence at the Westminster Court after being found guilty of attacking his wife in June 2021.
The 42-year-old former footballer was convicted of attacking his wife, Georgia Barton, after a night of public drinking with two more couples.
According to court proceedings, Mrs. Barton, 38, held a lump on her forehead and bleeding of her nose as a result of arguments.
After the incident, Mrs. Barton called the police, stating that her husband had “just hit”. However, she later submitted a letter to prosecutors in an attempt to withdraw her allegations.
Nevertheless, Judge Paul Goldspring rejected Barton’s version of the event as “unclear” and eventually declared him guilty of one charges of attack by winning after a two -day trial.
The prosecution also claimed that Mrs. Barton was not as drunk as she and her husband suggested. Mrs. Duong pointed out that her bloody nose is “an injury that really requires an explanation,” adding, “This is obviously something that is not caused by an accident.”

During the trial, Barton admitted that he was arguing with his wife, but denied any physical altercation. He was found fell asleep in their bedroom in the night of the incident when police arrived to arrest him, still drunk.
He remained silent at the police station during the test, offering an interview without comment.
His defense lawyer, Simon Csok, questioned the time of events, suggesting that there was uncertainty when exactly Mrs. Barton sustained injuries before he urgently called.
Addressing the lump at the helm, he claimed: “There are a number of circumstances in which the injury may have accidentally gained.”
Appearing in a court dressed in a black jacket, a jumper, pants and glasses, Barton did not speak while he was at the dock, but sent to stop while the verdict was published.
Despite his belief, Barton and his wife remain married and share two children together.
