The Australian Star, Steve Smith, announced his retirement from one-day international (ODIS), bringing a ended starred career in the 50-story format. Smith’s final appearance of ODA arrived in the semi-finals of the Trophy champion against India in Dubai, where Australia was the best in Australia with 73 runs at a loss.
Great career
The 35-year-old mid-row dough was presented at 170 ODIS for Australia, collecting 5,800 runs in an impressive average of 43.28 and a strike of 86.96. His career statistics include 12 centuries and 35 half a century, with the best hit in the 164 career against New Zealand in 2016. Originally, he made his debut as a comprehensive carrier, Smith also contributed to the ball, taking 28 Wickeke and showing his sharp terrain skills, grabbing 90 catchments.

“It was a great ride and I loved every minute of that,” Smith said. “There were so many amazing times and wonderful memories. Winning the two World Cups was a great peak, along with many fantastic teammates who shared the trip.”
Smith was an integral part of the Australian ODU’s winnings of the 2015 and 2023 World Cup. He is also captain of the national side in 64 matches, winning 32 and losing 28, and four games ended with no result. In a recent champion trophy, he entered the temporary captain in the absence of Pat Cummins, who was side due to injury.
While deviation from ODIS, Smith sees it as an opportunity to prepare the next generation for the 2027 World Cup. “Now it’s a great opportunity for people to start preparing for the 2027 World Cup, so it feels like the right time to make a way,” he said. “The test cricket remains a priority and I really look forward to the World Cup finals, West Indies series, and then ash at home. I feel I still have to contribute a lot in that format.”

Selector Crickket Australia, George Bailey, praised Smith’s contribution to the Australian cryrake and respected his decision to withdraw from ODO Format.
“We fully understand and support Steve’s decision to withdraw from the International Crown one day,” Bailey said. “Its record as a dough is exemplary, and leave the format as a double winner of the World Cup has cemented its heritage as one of the big Australian players of the ODU. From our point of view, Steve is fully dedicated to the tester of the cricket and continues to be a key player and leader within the team.”
