Heather Knight: Who will be the next English captain and why wasn’t the succession plan? | Current news

Women of England have been moving in the summer with a new captain for the first time since 2016, but who is to replace the Heather Knight in running and why was the change needed?

ECB confirmed on Saturday Knight will be replaced as a captain on the eve of the summerwith news that come 24 hours after Jon Lewis was set up as the main coach of England After a few months.

Knight skipped England in 199 times in the last nine years, leading them to the World Cup fame in 2017. Together with two more finals, although he leaves a role after leaving the group stage at last year’s T20 World Cup before lost all seven matches in a multi -format series.

Both departures follow an ECB that has a “honest review” in England becomes The first side to be washed 16-0 in the ashes in the ashes since the Multi-Format series was established, with Knight’s heir announced “Soon.”

Can Knight survive as a captain after the ash? Does the ECB fight for options in who it manages? Sky Sports Cricket’s Charles Dagnall and Lydia Greenway look at what the news could mean for the English team …

Was Knight’s departure inevitable?

Dagnall: “I think the ax will move everything that happened, given the state of a female ash that happened earlier in the year and the results in the T20 in the UAE.

“ECB said they wanted to completely review, they had that review. We didn’t get any exam results, but I think the results here are quite applicable with what happened to the captain and coach.

“I think her term will be observed with great positivity. The 2017 World Cup, that, of course, but also as a role model to young people and as an ambassador in the game.”

Greenway: “I think it will be a difficult situation to move (knight), because it sounds like it’s not her decision. Heather now has to bypass it and think about what role she could play inside this England moving forward.

“What it looks like Heather is moving forward, we don’t yet know, but we should celebrate what she did to play and what she did for this English team.

The English cricket of the greats of the past and the present share their experiences about the appropriate glittering careers

“We all know, lately, the team just didn’t perform. When that happens, unfortunately, changes must be made.”

Why is the change needed?

Dagnall: “The separation between Australia and England was obvious in this recent series of women’s ashes and a lot to change. I think you have to look more and the decisions that have been composed there.

“It is necessary to look from a woman’s perspective of England, because Australia streets are in front. I was just in WPL, the women’s premier league in India, and athleticism, fitness, quality and carrier of the Australian players are just a lot more.

“England can get there, but I think someone needs someone to get in with fresh ideas and a realistic approach where England should be the next two or three years.”

Greenway: “England only really knows where they are when they play against Australia and, from that series Home Ashes, they had a lot of bilateral series against nations, which, with all due respect, should win.

“I think they were dormant in a false sense of security and thinking they were at a point or at the level where they needed to be, when they were not really.

“Australia was far and above the better team in the ashes we know. Obviously the exit from the T20 World Cup would be a real shock for them, but what pointed out was a team that simply couldn’t occur under pressure and in the moments of Crunch.”

Is Sciver-Brunt Favorite?

Dagnall: “I think she’s an obvious candidate for a joke, but I think you have a real balance to somehow strikes here.

Nat Sciver-Brunt scored 59 of 54 balls to help England to win four lean over South Africa in the first T20 with multiple formats in November last November

“Is she the best tactical captain? No, and that was obvious in that situation pressure in the game against West Indies – a game that you should win very easily. Tactically, I think she leaves a little wanting.

“After this WPL, she just scored the fact that she’s the best player in the world. I wonder if you want to add another burden to her or you just want her to go out and be a player who is?

Greenway: “One of the criticisms ECB had was that they did not make any pre -planning to take over from Heather (Knight) when it eventually stopped.

“Sciver-Brunt is currently the most obvious option. She is the one who has had the most experience in the role of captains outside the level of England, and did so several times for England.

“My argument I don’t think it’s doing that is our best player and he already has such a great responsibility within that team. Does he want to do it? I don’t know.”

Who are other captains opportunities?

Dagnall: “The captain’s elections are not necessarily fantastic and I think Knight can still give a role.

“Amy Jones was a little caused by a domestic crunch, also Sophie Ecclestone. But again they are not presenters for me. Kate Cross goes to the fall of her career and plays only two formats.

Can Amy Jones be a captain in England in the future?

“England shot here in the leg, because the planning of the succession was not great. Nat Sciver-Brunt will be the top of the list, but whether it is the right option remains to be seen.”

Greenway: “Charlie Dean is the captain of the London spirit during the hundreds when Heather Knight injured. He would be an external candidate, I would think, but we are in a situation where – Outside Sciver -Brunt – we don’t know how the captain will go because we haven’t seen them.

England off-Spinner Charlie Dean took a hat-trick against southern Africa in December of the second game

“Kate Cross may be someone else you could throw in the mix, because there is an inexperienced English team in Ireland, but she doesn’t play all the formats.

“If they want a captain who plays all the formats, I think you have to look at Nat Sciver-Brunt, maybe Charlie Dean, but if you look at him, share it, then you could put someone like Kate Cross in a mix.”

Can Knight still play with England?

Greenway: “Her batches were always very powerful. As every dough does, she went through the tips and skills, but in general – as a captain and as a cricket – she was always able to manage this double role and find the way she would perform.

“Moving forward now, she is still one of our best shots of the middle row. When it comes to playing spin bowling, often she and Sciver-Brunt who are nuclees in England trying to get us out of the problem or lead the path to a more aggressive style.

“England must really try to find a way to include it as a player and that the dynamics will move forward with the new coach and captain will be something that will be new for everyone.”
