Arsenal chief Renee Slegers fears that more players will be injured if the matches are still playing at the underdone games.
On Tuesday night, a 2-0 defeat occurred in Real Madrid in Real Madrid, on the surface with a rain that was marked as the “shame” of former Arsenal striker Ian Wright.
It was held at the Alfredo di Stefano Stadium, in 6,000 Real seats, while Arsenal is guaranteed a better tone when Liverpool hosts at WSL at Emites Stadium, Live on Sky Sports This Saturday, as well as a return leg with Real next Wednesday.
“Of course we like to play on a good surface. I think every team does it. It makes football a little lighter,” Slegers said.
“I think women’s football deserves to play on good surfaces. Not the least because of the risk of players.”
The conditions seemed to have caused a nasty Real injury to Melanie Leupolz, who caught her wedges in the mud while playing the passage, and the German midfielder went to the field in tears.
Real later confirmed that the former Chelsea player had suffered a torn side ligament and would be on the side for two months.
“It’s not for me to evaluate and it would be hard for anyone to do, why it happened,” Slegers said.
“But there was an injury on the field and, yes, we want good players, for players’ health.”
There was also a critique of the toy surface at the Derby’s Pride Park, which hosted the Sunday league final between Chelsea and Manchester City, for which Blues midfielder Erin Cuthbert said he was “not suitable for the finals”.
Speaking on the eve of Sunday’s WSL Rovent with City, Chelsea chief Sonia Bompastor said: “I don’t think it’s acceptable to play at bad games, primarily because of the quality, but also, and perhaps mostly for the safety of players.
“I think this is something we really need to consider, because we are 2025 in the modern world in which we should have the best possible plots in a women’s game.
“It’s never easy to talk about other clubs, but when they have such a good team on the male side and a good stadium, I think they should take on a certain responsibility for playing a women’s team at a big stadium in Madrid.
“Uefa should make some decisions and should impose clubs so that they can have another terrain, especially when it is an international break for the male side and the large stadium is available.
“I know it costs money, sure, but if you want to help women’s football, you have to make those decisions.”
Saturday’s WSL fixed fixing rock-bott Crystal Palace, who won only in his second game last weekend against Aston Villa, traveled to the eight-ranked Everton.
“They probably threw a lifeboat last weekend,” said Toffees chief Brian Sorensen.
“They know if they can continue and work the same tomorrow, they will be in a good place for the last five games of the season.”
