“If he beat me up, he is within three points and has not yet reached the finals. So, it only shows the consistency he is shown,” Humphrieries said.
“He won five of the six first round games and was probably supposed to win that against the Crossa commodity at Exeter.
“Michael did not play his best, but you have to look at the record he had in those first games. He wins them every time.
“And obviously for me, I’m probably the one who stops him.

“As I said before the tournament started, these games in the first round are incredibly important.
“Two points are huge because there really is only one person who can surpass you a lot of points and it’s the winner.
“If people get three points in something like that, it’s not too bad.”
If he wins Van Gerwen, Humphories believes that the shackles will collapse because once at least two quarterfinals are completed, then he begins to play his best darts.

“After the quarterfinals, I think you are relaxing. And I think it happens to me. First you get rid of me and then I get my most dangerous,” Humphries added.
“I know Michael will be ready for it, because if he loses it, he could be out of four best.
“For me, I just want to break a little and give myself a little more free space in the top four.”
