As the IPL 2025 was supposed to start on March 22, all eyes will be on the newly appointed captain Royal Challengers Bengalur (RCB), Rajat Patidar, who inherited Faf du Plexis after the franchise was disassembled with the former South African skipper last year.
Rajat Patidar has held impressive performances over the years in the middle order, but leading the franchise with the heritage of big names like Virat Kohli comes with huge expectations. On the eve of the opening of the season, Aakash Chopra said it was a great opportunity to establish a patroness as a long -term leader Bengaluru Royal Challengers.
The former Indian dough pointed out that the dough stars have already shown their leadership skills at the domestic level, leading Madhya Pradesh to the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy finals, but Captain IPL is a completely different challenge. He asked if RCB was investing in the patient in the long run or it was a short -term move.
Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube channel: “The biggest opportunity for Rajat Patidar is. What will you expect from him? He did well for the MP, took the team to the finals to Smat (Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy), and the team looked at you and said they were planning for the next four to five years. However, they are still the question.”
Significantly, Royal Challengers Bengalur reached three finals in the IPL, but they have not yet raised the trophy. Last season they made an amazing return, winning seven of their last eight matches, but they went against Rajasthana Royals in the eliminator.
Furthermore, the commentator emphasized the pressure that the patient would face, especially with Virat Kohli still on the team. Aakash Chopra explained that the iconic cricket of the Kochli’s stature on the team can be useful, but it is crucial to the patient to lead with his own approach, not constantly asking what the former Indian and RCB skipper would do in certain situations.
He noted, “They have the legacy of good captains. Don’t think about what Virat Kohli would do. When the player is such a huge stature of a part of the team, you look at him. Also this team is a captain for eight additions. So, suddenly you think about what to do in a particular situation.”
Chopra believes that the upcoming IPL 2025 is a decisive moment for the patient. If he manages to lead the RCB to their first IPL title, it would be a historical achievement and strengthen his place as a prominent leader in the Indian crisis.
He signed, saying, “It would be a lot of pressure on you if you go with this thinking, because you will never outline your own course. It is important to make your own path. Virat Kohli is part of that team; you do not have to captain like Virat Kohli. So the possibilities for him can actually create history. If it doesn’t happen.”
