Torrent Group officially acquires a 67% stake in the Gujarat Titans, BCCI gives the green light


The Torrent Group, based in Ahmedabad, successfully acquired 67% of the majority share in the IPL franchise Gujarat Titan from CVC Capital Partners. The acquisition was completed on the eve of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 and received approval from the Committee for Crown control in India (BCCI).

The Titans were one of two new teams presented in the IPL after the CVC Capital Partners had secured the franchise through the competition process 2021 for 5,625 crowns. In his debut season, the team gave impressive performances. They won the title 2022 under the leadership of Hardik Pandya.

BCCI approves 67% acquisition of Torrent Group’s share in the Titan Gujarat from CVC

The Crown Control Committee in India approved the transfer of majority ownership of the Gujarata Titan from Irelia Sports India Private Private Limited (CVC Capital) to Torrent Group based in Ahmedabad. Torrent Group now has a 67% stake in the Gujarata franchise, while CVC Capital retains the remaining 33%.

According to the CRICBUZZ report, Torrent Group acquired its majority share for 5,035 crowns, with a total assessment of the Titan Gujarat in ₹ 7,522 crowns. According to the franchise contract, BCCI will receive 5% of each transaction that includes the ownership of the team.

“It is understood that the sale was completed on an assessment of the 7522 ore company, which means that the torrent bought a 67 percent stake for the RS 5035 crown. Torrent said it had completed the acquisition after receiving all the necessary approval, including BCCI,” the report said.

CVC Capital bought a Gujarat Titans 2022 for 5,625 crowns, and over three years, the franchise value increased by 1,897 crowns of ₹ – an increase of almost 34%. After winning their debut season, they reached the finals of 2023 again, but lost to Chennai Super Kings in the rain affected by rain.

On the eve of the 2024 season, Hardik Pandya returned to Mumbaj Indians, and Shubman Gill was appointed a new Captain Titan. However, the team fought and finished eighth with five wins, missing the playoffs.

Shubman Gill will continue to lead the team in the IPL 2025 season. Torrent Group initially announced a 127% stake in the franchise on February 12th, but the contract was waiting for the official approval of BCCI, which was now approved.

Torrent Group confirmed the successful completion of her Titan acquisition. According to a statement published by Torrent Group, she pointed out that the Gujarat Titans, although one of the youngest franchises in IPL history, has already achieved significant success.

“With the fulfillment of these conditions, the acquisition has now been successfully completed,” said Torrent Group (quoted by Times of India).

“The Gujarat Titans, one of the youngest and successful franchises in IPL history, will now benefit from the wide expertise of Torrent in the construction and management of great jobs,” said Torrent Group. “With the focus of strengthening the surgery of the team, the engagement of fans and commercial growth, the acquisition sets the stage for an exciting future for the franchise.”
