Chris Wood is for the season in New Zealand

Chris Wood says he wants to play a season in his native Novi Zealand before he retreats.

Nottingham Forest striker had a season of his life, scoring 18 goals in the Premier League to help direct the forest towards the Champions League football.

The 33-year-old is under a contract on the city ground until 2027, but in the long run he plans to return to his home nation with his English wife, Emma.

“I talked to my wife about this, where we will definitely come back and live in New Zealand and be part of New Zealand for a year, because I want to experience myself back home,” the 33-year-old for the New Zealand News website told the News Website Things.

“If it’s at the same time with football, that would be fantastic.

“There is a lot more that I want to achieve in football. And this is strange to say that he is at the age of 33. I believe that age is only a number, and I hope to prove it, I have proven that with my best season at the age of 33.

New Zealand has two professional clubs competing in the mainly Australian A-Ligi-Wellington Phoenix and a high flight team Auckland FC.

With 41 goals in 80 appearances for New Zealand, the most fertile goalkeeper in the country would probably be welcome to both.

“I really love both cities,” he said.

“100% I’ll sit on that fence and that’s football at the end of the day. Everything can change.”
