BCCI announces new rules for replacement of injured players but there is a turnaround

In recent development, the Crimeter Control Committee in India (BCCI) introduced a new clause on the replacement of players for the Indian Premier League 2025. This new rule enables all franchises, including CSK, RCB, MI and KKR, to manage continuous situations.

Key players Mumbai Indians (Mi) and Delhi Capitals (DC) have been placed on several games. Rahul is expected to be available for the first few games due to the birth of a child. In the meantime, we may be without a jasprit of Bumrah for the first two weeks while continuing rehabilitation from the back injury.

BCCI allows franchises to temporarily sign players in IPL 2025

According to the CRICBUZZ report, BCCI informed all ten IPL franchises of new guidelines for players to replace the players, especially resolving replacements related to injury and introducing a new system of players.

The Indian Committee also announced the creation of a pool called the registered available player (RAPP), from which teams can hire temporary replacements.

Although teams cannot replace the players for short -term unavailability, BCCI has made an exception to WiKketkeepers. Franchise can bring a temporary replacement if their primary guard is not available. Franchises must meet strict guidelines before they get a replacement.

Replacements for injuries that end the season: Guidelines and Terms

A player who suffers an injury or illness that ends the season can be replaced, even if they have already played in a league match during the season.

i) specified injury or illness occurs during or before the 12th league

II)) a doctor who nominated the BCCI confirms that the injury or illness ends the season (i.e. that means that the player will not be appropriate by the end of the season (including the playoffs);

III) absent injuries or illness, the player would be available for all the remaining matches in the season

Additional replacement scenarios

Replacement players will only be allowed if the player is not fully available for the whole season due to certain circumstances that BCCI has drawn.

(a) FTP of the Player’s dedication

(b) No night from the National Cricket Committee or State Associations

(c) an injury or illness (which should be certified by the medical expert on the parent committee and the doctor who appointed BCCI)

(d) retirement from all professional crickets, including domestic crickets. Retirement from IPL is not enough

(e) Any other valid reason approved by BCCI.

The new IPL rules, a particularly short-term option for the replacement for WiKketkeepere, provide teams with greater flexibility to teams. This provision existed before, but it was never used in the history of the tournament.

The introduction of a registered available player of the player (RAPP) ensures that teams can recruit replacements honestly and transparent. For example, if any team has only two specialized Wickeket and both suffer injuries, they can make a replacement from the RAPP list to cover the position.
