Manchester United revealed plans to build a completely new, state -of -the -art stadium in 100,000 seats, which would be the largest in the UK.
The proposed project, which is estimated to cost at least £ 2 billion, will be built next to Old Trafford.
Red Devils co -owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe provides for development as a “biggest football stadium”, and the club aimed at ending in the next five years.
This decision follows discussions about whether to renovate the existing Old Trafford or embark on a whole new construction.
Since its inauguration in 1910, Old Trafford has been the House of Manchester United. However, increasing concern about infrastructure aging has encouraged discussions about the future of the club stadium.
The leading architectural company Foster and Partners was selected for designing a new stadium. The project will contain an innovative umbrella style structure.
Lord Norman Foster, the executive president of the company, described the vision: “This is one of the most exciting projects in the world today. It all begins with the experience of fans, approaching them on the ground and acoustic growing a huge roar.
“The stadium contains a huge umbrella, harvesting of energy and rainwater and shelter of a new public beach, which is twice the larger than Trafalgar Square.”
Despite being currently in a lot of pounds, Manchester United has yet to confirm that they intend to finance the project. The stadium should be the central part of the wider remodeling plan for the Old Trafford area, schemes that are expected to submit to the transformation of Stratford on the eve of the 2012 London Olympics.
According to the club, the project could create 92,000 new jobs, facilitate the construction of 17,000 homes and attract an additional 1.8 million visitors to the area a year. Economic influence is predicted that £ 7.3 billion is worth a year for economy in the UK.
Ratcliffe expressed his excitement for plans, saying, “Today marks the beginning of an incredibly exciting journey to the delivery of what will be the world’s largest stadium.
“Our current stadium has served us brilliantly for the last 115 years, but has lagged behind the arenas in world sports.
“I think we may end with the most famous football stadium in the world.”
Although Old Trafford is still the largest club stadium in England with a capacity of 74,140, concerns about aging aging have increased in recent years. Questions like a roof leak in Sir Bobby Charlton stressed the need for remodeling.
As part of their research, united officials consulted with experts involved in the main stadium projects, including the Los Angeles Sofi stadium and the recent renovation of Santiago Bernabeu Real Madrid.
The club also sought the contribution of locals and fans through a poll to determine whether the fans preferred a new construction or extensive remodeling of the current stadium.
The future of Old Trafford remains uncertain. Although some have speculated that this could be remodeled for women’s and young United teams, the club insiders suggested that the reduction of the stadium for such use would not be profitable.
Foster and partners, known for his work at the main sports sites, previously designed Wembley Stadium, which opened in 2007, and Lusail Stadium, the venue for the FIFA World Cup final in Qatar.
Old Trafford’s decision will be a significant change for many, but former manager Sir Alex Ferguson supports the initiative. He said, “Manchester United should always strive for the best in everything he does, on and off the field, and this includes the stadium we play.
“Old Trafford personally holds so many memories, but we have to be brave and take this opportunity to build a new home, suitable for the future, where history can be made.”
