‘We have 10 finals’ – Guardiola on Manchester City race for the Champions League qualifying


Pep Guardiola admits that his side Manchester City has “10 finals” if they qualify for the Champions League next season.

Speaking after a 1-0 defeat of the four best rivals Nottingham Forest on Saturday, Guardiola said his team had to start winning the games if he wanted to remain in the qualification for the European competition at an elite club.

With 10 other league matches, City is currently in fourth place, just a point ahead of Chelsea and Brighton and four points behind Forest.

The city boss believed that his team had dominated the game against the team Nuno Espirito Santo, but said that it was ultimately spent late with possession.

“It was a tight game. We really controlled the transitions well. We created a lot of chances, but they defended ourselves well,” Guardiola told TNT Sports.

“But in the end we lost one crossing, we lost a light ball and they scored.

“They were really well defended and we couldn’t find a precise (final) at the last minute.

“We have 10 matches that qualify, you have to win the games to qualify (for the Champions League). And let’s go to the next one.”

Guardiola also believes that the league is becoming more competitive every year and recognizes the task that players playing for him between now and the end of the season.

“We knew before we arrived that the Premier League was getting better and better every season,” Guardiola added.

“We have 10 finals, and we start next.”

The city is next in action when it hosts Brighton on Saturday.
